This section of the Appalachian Trail heads mostly east from the boundary of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park for 15 miles until it reaches Max Patch Road.<br />

From Asheville, take I-40 west to Tennessee border. Take the first Tennessee exit and look for parking along gravel road. Along the way it passes HP Snowbird Mtn., Groundhog Shelter, and Brown Gap.
